About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide nursing care, administer medications, and document care for a designated group of patients under medical provider direction
- Provide nursing care on the assigned shift using the nursing process and addressing age-specific needs
- Check schedules, organize patient flow, and accompany patients to examination and procedure rooms
- Assist patients with walking, transfers, dressing, specimen collection, exam-room preparation, and instrument setup
- Collect patient histories and perform screenings and laboratory tests ordered by the medical provider
- Assist medical providers and nursing staff with procedures and examinations
- Chart and relay instructions to patients and families
- Answer telephone calls and provide pertinent information
- Administer medications and treatments within scope of practice
- Prepare patients for tests and surgery and assist physicians with procedures
- Initiate peripheral IV access and administer IV flushes and IVPBs according to policy
- Ensure safe segregation and disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste
- Receive and transcribe physician, FNP, and PA orders as appropriate
- Contribute to development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans
- Identify, record, and report changes in patient condition or adverse reactions
- Document care in patient records
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments, maintain infection-control records, and restock rooms
- Follow clinic and system-wide policies and promote patient rights
- Respond to medical emergencies and initiate CPR or appropriate action
- Order patient supplies and complete referrals
- Precept new employees during orientation
- Perform related responsibilities as required or directed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Completion of a vocational school LPN program
- Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing for practice in Tennessee
- Responsible for Continuing Education Units annually
- BLS certification must be obtained within the orientation period and kept current
- Proficiency in pharmacology and documentation
- Ability to demonstrate nursing skills according to current hospital and nursing policies and procedures
- Successful completion of documentation class, pharmacology exam, and skills exam
- Basic computer skills preferred
