About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Maintain positive and effective employee/labor relations practices
  • Implement and oversee HR policies and procedures
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain HR policies, programs, and training focused on employee/labor relations
  • Advise hospital and management staff on employee and labor relations issues
  • Develop and recommend employee relations practices that support positive working relationships and employee morale
  • Assist with arbitrations and other legal inquiries
  • Interpret collective bargaining agreements and support organizational compliance
  • Communicate policies, values, and state and federal laws to hospital staff and management
  • Investigate harassment, working conditions, disciplinary, appeal, and grievance issues
  • Advise and assist management with counseling, discipline, and termination decisions
  • Review written corrective action forms in Human Resources
  • Assist management with grievance procedures and review grievance statements and responses
  • Attend third-level grievance meetings
  • Develop processes and tools supporting employee and labor relations
  • Work with an outside vendor on unemployment claims

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations; OR bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or another related degree and one year of professional human resources experience; OR associate’s degree in one of these fields and three years of professional human resources experience
  • Working knowledge of federal and state labor laws related to all aspects of human resources
  • Ability to interpret and advise on provisions of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA)
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to interface with management and employees at all organizational levels
  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
  • Employee/labor relations experience, including investigations, CBA administration and interpretation, and advising management, preferred
  • Recent healthcare-setting experience preferred
