About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide psychotherapeutic treatment and supportive counseling to assigned patients and families
  • Provide linkage, referral, and advocacy services
  • Participate as an integral professional member of an interdisciplinary treatment team led by a physician
  • Participate as clinical personnel in treatment areas and facilitate the therapeutic milieu on treatment units
  • Provide direct one-on-one age-specific psychotherapy under supervision
  • Determine patients’ developmental age and assist with development and implementation of individualized treatment plans
  • Assess psychosocial needs, high-risk indicators, and psychosocial histories
  • Correlate psychosocial-history data in a clinically pertinent manner
  • Perform continued-care planning from the first day of services
  • Provide group therapy under supervision
  • Act as liaison for patients and families with community agencies, consultants, and services
  • Record and chart all patient contacts
  • Provide direct family therapy under supervision
  • Attend continuing education seminars and in-services
  • Perform other assigned duties and projects

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s Degree in related field
  • State criminal background check and Federal background check (if applicable), as required for regulated areas
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Prior experience in a mental health setting preferred
  • Temporary Social Work permit OR passage of National Board of Certified Counselors examination for licensure and certification preferred
  • Ability to work independently or cooperatively as a team member
  • Independent decision-making ability
  • Ability to adapt to various workloads and assignments
  • Ability and willingness to participate in physical restraint of patients if needed when working on inpatient units
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping
  • Must maintain professional licensure, competency, and hospital-required educational standards
