About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Resolve patient billing concerns accurately and in a timely manner
- Implement collection policies and procedures
- Interview and counsel patients regarding payment arrangements, charity assistance, and other financial matters
- Work with patients to resolve account balances
- Accurately post payments and adjustments
- Communicate workflow problems to management
- Resolve patient billing and third-party payer concerns
- Answer patient questions quickly, accurately, and courteously
- Identify and screen Medicare charity cases within established guidelines
- Rebill accounts as necessary
- Operate keyboards, fax machines, telephones, and other business equipment
- Perform duties in a high-stress environment with constant interruptions and normal business office surroundings
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year experience in a healthcare setting preferred
- One (1) year previous customer service experience preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Knowledge of ICS-9 and CPT coding preferred
- Demonstrated customer service relations
- Analytical skills necessary for problem solving
- Knowledge of Fair Debt Collection Act
- General knowledge of third party payers, collection laws, and collection procedures required
- Excellent telephone communication skills
- Working knowledge of computers, including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Current knowledge of Medicare reimbursement process and audit regulations
- Understanding of UB92/1500 bill forms contents and EOMB’s
- Ability to understand written and oral communication
- Ability to communicate with patients according to established age-specific education/standards
- Ability to operate keyboards, fax machines, telephones, and other business equipment
- Must meet stated physical requirements, including lifting/force requirements and manual dexterity
