About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design and develop mechanical systems and components for the Plant & Process Design team
- Identify and document requirements, interfaces, design basis, and criteria
- Create and maintain CAD-generated engineering models
- Perform thermal and hydraulic computations and analyses
- Develop design basis documents, technical reports, calculations, design descriptions, and drawings
- Perform Systems Engineering processes for mechanical systems and components
- Organize and lead external engineering partners
- Develop technical content supporting procurement of materials, equipment, and services
- Review system engineering documentation and participate in design reviews
- Support safety culture and quality integration
- Identify, document, report, and manage system and project risks
- Manage system development through all engineering lifecycle phases
- Manage design development leads and subcontractors
- Lead planning and oversight of structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other engineering analyses
- Oversee procured items and verify compliance with contract specifications
- Develop and manage engineering changes
- Provide feedback and guidance to junior team members
- Lead small groups of engineers solving complex technical problems
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering discipline from an ABET accredited university required
- Level III: typically five years of experience in a mechanical engineering role required
- Level IV: typically ten years of experience in a mechanical engineering role required
- Level V: typically fifteen years of experience in a mechanical engineering role required
- A master’s degree in engineering or related field may be in lieu of two years of experience
- A Ph.D. in engineering or related field may be in lieu of three years of experience
- Typically, experience with mechanical process equipment design, procurement, installation, and/or operation is required
- Systems or Design Engineering experience in successful mechanical system development projects
- Experience with design and operation of mechanical systems including steam, feedwater, condensate, HVAC, fire protection, drainage, compressed air, services, water-based systems, or nuclear systems
- Knowledge of system requirements management and verification
- Knowledge of Systems Engineering processes and relevant nuclear power plant licensing, regulatory, quality, and safety requirements
- Technical proficiency in mechanical design fundamentals for structural and fluidic components, mechanisms, or manufacturing and processing equipment
- Preferred: experience designing and/or operating HVAC process equipment
- Preferred: experience working in the nuclear industry
