About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Enhance and maintain public-facing applications supporting the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Geospatial Technical Operations Center
- Improve application functionality and data presentation
- Troubleshoot issues and identify efficient ways for information to move through the environment
- Use JavaScript to develop and improve existing applications
- Use AWS technologies to support and automate cloud-based data workflows
- Test and improve existing solutions
- Develop efficient and scalable code as needs evolve
- Collaborate within a technical environment to build maintainable solutions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must have the ability to receive / maintain a favorable adjudicated Public Trust investigation (US Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident for at least 3 years)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field + 2 years of relevant experience in software or applications engineering
- Proficiency in JavaScript
- Ability to understand, troubleshoot, and improve existing code
- Hands-on experience with the AWS SDK and AWS CLI
- Familiarity with AWS Lambda, S3, and EC2
- Understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including version control, debugging, testing, algorithms, and data structures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Python experience is nice to have
- Experience with HTML, CSS, React, Angular, or other modern front-end technologies is nice to have
- Back-end development experience using Node.js or similar technologies is nice to have
- Familiarity with RESTful API design and integration is nice to have
- Additional experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud environments is nice to have
- Familiarity with ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Server, or related Esri technologies is nice to have
