About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build and deploy production software across Lessn's payments orchestration platform
- Integrate with card networks, banks, the acquirer and payout rails
- Contribute to the AI/ML decision engine that optimises invoice payment using real-time open banking data
- Build and maintain reconciliation integrations with Xero, MYOB and future ERP platforms
- Introduce and champion CI/CD, automated testing and infrastructure-as-code practices
- Mentor the graduate engineer, review code and support development
- Act as a senior quality gate before production release in a regulated fintech environment
- Participate in a shared escalation roster and serve as technical escalation point for customer-impacting incidents
- Feed delivery insights into the product roadmap across integrations, accounting connectors, Payday Super, multi-currency payments and real-time reconciliation
- Complete platform migration, compliance work, deployment ownership, automated testing, deployment pipeline, infrastructure rebuild, supplier verification/KYB automation and the data foundation/decision engine
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years hands-on software engineering experience, including production systems in a commercial environment
- Strong command of Python
- Experience with at least one strongly typed language (C#, Java, C++ or similar)
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure or GCP), infrastructure-as-code and containerisation
- Demonstrated ability to design and ship software independently, with minimal oversight
- Comfortable operating in a small team with direct exposure to founders and rapid decision-making
- Appointment subject to a national police check
- Must have current rights to work in Australia
- Preferred: experience in fintech, payments or another regulated industry
- Preferred: exposure to AI/ML engineering and data pipelines
- Preferred: startup or scaleup experience
- Preferred: experience mentoring or leading junior engineers
