About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assess habilitative, behavioral, and psychiatric needs of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Conduct behavioral and habilitative assessments, functional behavior assessments, observations, standardized testing, and data collection
- Analyze data and research related syndromes and conditions using DSM-5, ICD-10, and DM-ID
- Develop individualized habilitative and behavior support plans using proactive and evidence-based interventions
- Develop plans involving medication, environmental modifications, SCIP-R physical interventions, and mechanical restraints when appropriate
- Obtain required approvals and consents before implementing interventions
- Establish baselines and design data collection systems to monitor progress
- Direct and oversee day-to-day data collection by program staff and ensure monthly summaries
- Modify plans based on monitoring, assessment, and individual needs
- Maintain required paperwork, communications, documentation, billing, and meeting records
- Train direct care staff and management using the Explain Model Observe Evaluate system
- Conduct specialized training on I/DD, diagnoses, symptoms, behaviors, and interventions
- Evaluate and provide feedback on staff performance and clinical implementation
- Support staff and leadership during crisis situations and recommend supports
- Mentor Assistant BISs and program designees in clinical and data-collection skills
- Serve as clinical team leader in interdisciplinary meetings, case reviews, person-centered meetings, and monthly BIS meetings
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master’s degree in clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology or applied psychology as it relates to human development and clinical interventions, and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; or National Board certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) and a Master’s degree in behavior analysis or a closely related field approved by OPWDD; or current license and registration in Mental Health Counseling issued by NYSED
- Successfully complete BIS School or authorized equivalent training through YAI within one year of appointment
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evening and/or weekend hours
- Ability to regularly travel to multiple programs throughout assigned regions and potentially other regions
- Must hold or obtain and maintain SCIP-R or SCIP-R Restrictive and CPR certification if required, within six months of hire
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Strong dedication to quality care and team-based care
- Ability to communicate clinical matters appropriately to individuals at all levels
- Basic computer skills, including email, Workday, related systems, and electronic health records
- Ability to meet essential physical demands, including walking, sitting, standing, bending, lifting/moving individuals with assistance, wheelchair pushing, and lifting/moving up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Preferred: strong understanding of I/DD, autism spectrum disorders, neurodevelopmental disorders, traumatic brain injury, and co-occurring psychiatric diagnoses
- Preferred: knowledge of restrictive/intrusive interventions, psychotropic medications, ABA, CBT, DBT, positive psychology, and evidence-based approaches
- Preferred: current SCIP-R or SCIP-R Restrictive and CPR certification
