About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a practical legal resource to the Co-founders and leadership team on day-to-day decisions
- Flag enterprise-level risk and escalate high-stakes matters appropriately
- Structure and negotiate project development, construction, financing, tax, offtake, interconnection, and other critical agreements
- Support mineral and surface rights, site control, land use, permitting, environmental review, and federal, state, and local regulatory matters
- Help design a forward-thinking legal department using AI and automation for high-volume workflows
- Manage outside-counsel strategy, selection, scope, budgets, performance, and knowledge transfer
- Bring repeatable legal work in-house when it creates leverage
- Lead legal work across corporate governance, project development, commercial contracting, public policy, employment, intellectual property, compliance, and real property
- Help make geothermal projects financeable and strengthen company decision-making and risk management
Requirements
What you’ll need- Attorney in good standing
- Eligible for admission or registration in Utah
- Meaningful experience in an in-house role, or as outside counsel with direct accountability to business clients
- Experience at a high-growth company, energy or infrastructure business, independent power producer, project developer, or similarly complex organization
- Exposure to project finance, bankability, or energy development is a strong plus
- Ability to distinguish real risk from noise and provide clear, practical advice
- Ability to use legal technology, data, and automation thoughtfully while protecting confidentiality and privilege
- Comfortable building processes and controls from scratch
- Sound judgment, curiosity, resilience, and commercial instinct
