About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build the cloud services behind Zed and Delta
- Help rebuild the backend from a single stateful server into a fully distributed system
- Build backend software and help own the infrastructure it runs on
- Work across APIs, application logic, storage, asynchronous processing, deployment, and operations
- Build Cloud Runners providing ephemeral compute for development work
- Evolve billing for new products, pricing, and packaging
- Integrate identity providers and develop authorization capabilities
- Build integrations connecting Zed and Delta to developers’ existing workflows
- Clarify problems, choose practical scope, and carry projects through implementation, rollout, and operation
- Make consequential technical decisions and provide technical stewardship of the cloud system
- Write and review code and investigate difficult bugs
- Improve tests, interfaces, and documentation
- Participate in on-call, respond to incidents, and address recurring software and infrastructure problems
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experienced backend engineer
- Owned backend services from design through production and continued development
- Made API and data-model decisions and shipped changes to systems with active users
- Handled failures and operational issues after launch
- Built and operated cloud infrastructure, including provisioning resources, configuring deployments and monitoring, and diagnosing production problems
- Led projects involving other engineers while writing code
- Clarified requirements, design decisions, dependencies, and delivery plans
- Worked across different kinds of backend problems, including new capabilities, integrations, and operational improvements
- Collaborated with engineers and product partners to compare approaches and make technical trade-offs
- Production Rust experience is a strong advantage but not required
- Able to learn an unfamiliar language or codebase and ship production work
- Career centered on building software, potentially combining backend engineering with platform, DevOps, or reliability work
