About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own third-party integrations end to end and build platform abstractions that make new integrations faster to implement
  • Work with counterparties’ technical teams to define contracts, handle data formats, and reduce integration maintenance debt
  • Build and operate ML/LLM systems that extract structure from medical records, lien correspondence, and other unstructured documents
  • Evaluate and monitor ML/LLM systems to assess their effectiveness
  • Refactor and decompose monolithic services into independently scalable systems
  • Operate live services and troubleshoot production issues
  • Mentor mid-level engineers and set standards through code review
  • Build and maintain backend services and data-processing workflows over large datasets
  • Automate manual processes
  • Implement security practices for sensitive legal and medical data
  • Translate internal stakeholder business needs into technical solutions

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 6+ years of software development experience building and maintaining backend systems in production
  • Significant experience with Python/Django or a comparable framework (Node.js, Rails, Laravel)
  • Experience designing and building APIs consumed by other teams or external parties
  • Experience integrating third-party or partner APIs, especially with inconsistent data and incomplete documentation
  • Hands-on AWS experience with EKS/EC2, RDS, S3, and queueing (SQS or similar)
  • Strong SQL and PostgreSQL, including query optimization and schema design against large tables
  • Hands-on experience with LLM or ML features, including prompting, evaluation, and failure analysis
  • Experience using or experimenting with agentic coding tools
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising standards on a growing team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Experience with document processing or extraction from unstructured data (nice to have)
  • Working knowledge of React and JavaScript (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes (nice to have)
  • Experience handling sensitive data such as PHI or working under HIPAA-style requirements (nice to have)
