About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Work on tools, processes and systems that move Zoox vehicles from prototype to production
Assist with manufacturing processes, including line balancing and station setup
Develop test automation, diagnostics and analysis tools for vehicle production
Optimize warehouse operations, inventory accuracy and packaging for line-side delivery
Develop automated CNC part programming with mechanical prototype and fabrication teams
Industrialize new hardware designs for production
Build AI analytics and tools for Manufacturing Operations
Work on manufacturing data governance
Improve manufacturing, assembly or logistics processes using data
Work hands-on with production hardware alongside cross-functional engineers
Present findings and recommendations to manufacturing and engineering stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need

Currently working towards a B.S., M.S., or advanced degree in a relevant engineering program (mechanical, computer, electrical, industrial, manufacturing or systems engineering)
Good academic standing
Expected to graduate between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028
Enrolled at an accredited college or university throughout the internship
Able to commit to a full-time, 12-week internship beginning in May/June 2027
Ability to relocate to the Bay Area, California, for the duration of the internship
May not use proprietary Zoox information in a thesis, published university work, or distribute it outside Zoox
Foundational understanding of process optimization, including build sequencing, task time analysis and line layout
Ability to assist in developing and documenting work instructions and procedures
Scripting or automation skills in Python or a similar language
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Strong organization and communication skills
Comfort working on a production floor
Previous automotive, manufacturing or prototyping experience (bonus)
Experience with MES, SAP, ERP systems, CAD, CNC programming, Python, SQL or Databricks (bonus)
