About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build and ship internal web tools and dashboards on top of existing Zoox data sources, from prototype through production use
Work with TPMs and engineering partners to turn business questions into scoped tools and iterate based on feedback
Design queries, transformations, and pipelines to keep data current without manual intervention
Extend geospatial tooling with new attributes, data sources, and visualizations to inform service expansion
Surface data coverage gaps, flag low-confidence results, and make tool assumptions visible
Partner with leaders across vehicle development, software engineering, manufacturing, fleet operations, and business functions to support corporate milestones
Own a piece of the stack end to end and deliver tools for program and executive reviews

Requirements

What you’ll need

Able to work on-site at the Foster City, CA office
Time commitment is flexible; part-time alongside coursework or full-time both work
A minimum of six months is preferred for continuity
Must adhere to Zoox confidentiality requirements, including refraining from using or sharing proprietary company information outside of Zoox
Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a BS or MS in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field — or equivalent practical experience
Demonstrated experience building web tools or dashboards end to end through coursework, internships, research, or personal projects
Strong Python and working SQL
Front-end capability with React/TypeScript or Python frameworks such as Streamlit, Dash, or Flask
Experience with a visualization library such as Plotly or D3
Effective use of generative AI coding tools such as Claude Code, with discipline to review and test generated code
Solid software fundamentals including version control, code review, and readable code
Comfort with messy, incomplete real-world data and assessing result trustworthiness
Clear written and verbal communication and ability to explain technical results to non-specialists
Bonus: Familiarity with geospatial tooling, open data sources, large-scale data processing, BI tooling, routing, graph algorithms, network analysis, autonomous vehicles, robotics, mapping, mobility data, or internal tools
