About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead communications across policy, safety, and reputation functions
- Set communications strategy and execute proactive campaigns
- Partner with policy, safety, legal, product, and other teams to build communications campaigns
- Own and support external communications programs and events
- Track the autonomous vehicle regulatory landscape and develop forward-looking communications strategies
- Develop media relationships and manage inbound and reactive requests
- Proactively communicate Zoox's safety story and framework to external stakeholders
- Anticipate communications risks and establish mitigation strategies
- Serve as a communications partner on sensitive, fast-moving matters
- Build communications programs supporting community and policy in-market initiatives
- Support reactive communications with speed, accuracy, and judgment
- Provide communications counsel across the organization
- Represent communications in safety and trust working groups
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years in communications or policy communications, with deep experience handling safety, regulatory, or reputation-sensitive issues
- Proven track record managing high-stakes, technical communications, ideally in a heavily regulated industry such as AV, aviation, automotive, energy, or healthcare
- Experience running proactive policy communications campaigns that shaped narratives or regulatory outcomes
- Experience in issues management and developing reactive communications under pressure and tight timelines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to distill complex technical topics accurately for broad audiences
- Strong executive management skills and ability to work collaboratively cross-functionally
- High attention to detail and program organization skills
- Sharp instincts for what builds and breaks public trust
- Experience in autonomous vehicles, mobility, or emerging technology is a bonus
- Familiarity with the federal and state AV regulatory environment is a bonus
