About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Carry out technical accounting assessments for new transactions, products, significant contracts and business initiatives, and draft accounting papers and memos
- Support ownership of the annual report and accounts, drafting sections and coordinating contributions across Finance and the wider business
- Manage stakeholders and provide practical technical accounting advice to Product, Legal, Treasury, Risk and other Zopa teams
- Support development, implementation and maintenance of accounting policies, the accounting manual and policy guidance
- Help implement new accounting treatments in finance systems and processes and hand them over to business-as-usual teams
- Support technical accounting for balance sheet activity, including SPPI testing and hedge accounting assessments and documentation under IAS 39 and IFRS 9
- Support timely and accurate month-end reporting
- Work with external auditors on accounting policy and technical accounting matters
- Conduct horizon scanning of legislation, regulation and accounting standards affecting financial and corporate reporting
- Help automate annual report production
- Use AI and automation to improve technical accounting, policy and reporting processes
- Keep up to date with financial and corporate reporting developments
Requirements
What you’ll need- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with relevant post-qualification experience
- Experience of working in the financial services sector, ideally banking or consumer finance, or training at a top six accountancy firm with financial services experience in a technical accounting role
- Solid working knowledge of IFRS and its application to financial services products and transactions
- Experience drafting technical accounting papers or memos and explaining complex accounting to non-accountants
- Ability to drive change to systems and processes to improve efficiency
- Ability to listen, analyse, research, investigate and provide solutions relating to financial accounting and reporting
- Comfortable managing multiple pieces of work in a fast-moving environment and building trusted relationships with stakeholders at all levels
- Curiosity about AI and its use in everyday work
- Technical knowledge of IFRS 9, hedge accounting under IFRS 9 and IAS 39, IFRS 2 and IAS 38 is a bonus
- Experience of operational accounting is a bonus
