About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Represent insureds of a commercial insurance carrier in moderate- to high-exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto cases
  • Prepare and try cases from a challenging and varied caseload
  • Practice law in compliance with Federal Courts and Colorado State Bar ethical standards
  • Conduct initial investigations, legal analysis, and provide legal advice
  • Evaluate damages
  • Prepare and file legal pleadings and documents
  • Perform legal research
  • Prepare for and conduct pre-trial discovery
  • Prepare for and handle hearings and trials
  • Conduct post-trial activities where appropriate
  • Handle insurance defense matters through all phases of litigation
  • Mentor less experienced attorneys
  • Provide leadership and training across the organization

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Juris Doctor and 7 or more years of experience in the Litigation area
  • Member in good standing of the Colorado State Bar
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment
  • Experience handling insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation, including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury, from inception through trial
  • Strong case analysis ability
  • Effective settlement and trial skills
  • Ability to work independently without substantial supervision
  • Ability to mentor less experienced attorneys and provide leadership and training
  • Relevant first chair jury trial experience
  • Ability to budget costs and calculate exposure for clients
  • Knowledge of billables and diary review with substantive and procedural legal knowledge
  • Functional and extensive knowledge of law and procedure
  • Prior experience in an insurance defense environment
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Experience working in a team-based environment
  • Strong collaboration skills
  • PC literate
