About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Evolve CNC into a horizontally scalable fetch scheduler handling 50–100M requests per day
Design and ship the Fleet Manager inventory, health, configuration and software-rollout plane
Build provider adapters, a reconciler, a rollout controller and a BigQuery exporter
Operate and improve the CONNECT proxy gateway and edge session handling
Collaborate with the API squad on IP reputation, proxy leases and request scheduling
Engineer mTLS gRPC, long-polling and streaming across unreliable residential links
Handle NAT, carrier-grade NAT and bandwidth accounting under contention
Define SLOs for Edge-route availability, success and latency
Build metrics for peer count, drop-off and bandwidth
Run safe blue/green rollouts of CNC and peers
Participate in the on-call rotation and lead incident post-mortems
Write RFDs, review designs and apply distributed-systems principles to the codebase
Work with the Team Lead, Principal Engineer and partner engineering squads

Requirements

What you’ll need

5+ years of production Rust experience, shipping and operating services end to end
Experience designing and running schedulers, control planes or stateful services at scale
Ability to reason about consistency, partitions, backpressure and idempotency
Deep knowledge of TCP, TLS and HTTP at the handshake and packet level
Experience with gRPC and long-lived connections across NAT and lossy links
Experience building or operating forward proxies, proxy gateways or residential/ISP proxy infrastructure
Understanding of IP reputation, session stickiness and pool health
Experience with SLOs, error budgets, observability and production incidents
Comfort with being on call
Comfortable with Rust running on Windows, Linux and Android targets
Familiarity with FFI boundaries
Strong written communication for a globally distributed, remote-first environment
Rust knowledge including tokio and tonic
Familiarity with C++ and Cronet at the peer boundary
Knowledge of Python and Java integration services
Experience with gRPC and protobuf over mTLS
Experience with HTTP CONNECT proxying
Familiarity with the Chromium network stack and browserless HTTP clients
Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, Terraform and blue/green deployments
Familiarity with Valkey, BigQuery and Confluent Kafka
Familiarity with Prometheus, Grafana, Loki and OpenTelemetry
