About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Set the multi-year technical strategy and architecture for Infrastructure Services
  • Shape roadmap and investment decisions, including build-versus-buy decisions
  • Define patterns, standards, and guardrails across compute, network and edge, and stateful services
  • Represent Infrastructure Services in cross-organization reviews with product engineering, security, and finance
  • Serve as the senior technical voice for the platform across the company
  • Write design documents and prototypes, review complex designs, and remain hands-on technically
  • Serve as an escalation point for major incidents
  • Drive organization-wide improvements to incident management, reliability targets, and disaster recovery
  • Lead cloud cost, capacity, and efficiency strategy with measurable goals
  • Drive automation and AI-assisted operations to reduce organizational toil
  • Mentor Staff and Senior engineers
  • Raise the bar on design review and engineering practices
  • Help hire and develop infrastructure leaders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Experience setting technical direction across multiple teams or an entire organization
  • Experience owning multi-year infrastructure strategy or architecture
  • Production-scale Kubernetes experience in multi-cluster, multi-tenant, customer-traffic-bearing environments; EKS or similar managed platforms preferred
  • Deep knowledge of autoscaling, admission control, GitOps, workload identity, and fleet-wide cluster upgrades
  • Working fluency in networking, edge services, and stateful data systems
  • Experience defining SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets and driving organizational adoption
  • Experience improving incident response, post-incident learning, and disaster recovery across an organization
  • Demonstrable cloud cost reduction through capacity automation, right-sizing, architecture changes, or commitment strategy
  • Experience partnering with finance on forecasting and tradeoffs
  • Experience driving workload identity, least-privilege IAM and RBAC, credential rotation, and strong multi-tenant isolation
  • Proficiency in Go or a similar language
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform
  • Track record automating complex, high-toil operational workflows at fleet scale
  • Ability to write strategy and design documents, present to senior leaders, resolve technical disagreements, and build alignment
  • Experience mentoring Senior and Staff engineers and contributing to hiring and technical-talent evaluation
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States or Canada; no work authorization, relocation assistance, or visa sponsorship provided
  • Successful completion of a background check required
