About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build from the ground up and lead 33 USA's Community Management service for official Discord servers and Reddit communities serving Japanese anime, manga, and game IPs in North America
  • Design community structures, rules, moderation and governance frameworks, safety standards, and ongoing engagement programs
  • Define service offerings, operating playbooks, moderation policies, quality standards, and reporting methods
  • Oversee day-to-day moderation, incident response, spoiler/leak control, anti-harassment, and anti-spam measures
  • Coordinate escalation and crisis response with internal teams and clients
  • Build and manage contractor and part-time moderator teams, including staffing, shifts, direction, training, review, and quality control
  • Develop playbooks, SOPs, moderation logs, and escalation-flow documentation
  • Plan and execute launch events, AMAs, watch parties, contests, release-linked activations, and creator/ambassador programs
  • Partner with Social Media Marketing and Creative teams to connect social communications with community engagement
  • Translate Japanese IP-holder brand intent and guidelines into experiences suited to North American fandom culture
  • Build the Community Management service scope, delivery structure, processes, packages, pricing inputs, proposal materials, and case studies
  • Support business development proposals, sales meetings, and pitch presentations as the community subject-matter expert
  • Serve as the primary client contact for community matters after award; provide reporting, share issues, and propose improvements
  • Build relationships with Discord, Reddit, and other platform contacts; track features, policy changes, Trust & Safety developments, and best practices
  • Study entertainment-industry community management examples and evaluate their applicability to anime and manga IPs
  • Collaborate with Tokyo headquarters and Japanese clients on IP strategies, release schedules, promotions, and licensing constraints
  • Bridge Japanese client requirements with North American fandom and platform cultures
  • Coordinate with Business Development, Social Media Marketing, Creative, and related teams in the US and Japan

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing, launching, and operating both Discord servers and Reddit communities as official communities for a brand, IP, or game title; personal fan communities or volunteer moderator participation alone do not qualify
  • Track record of launching multiple official communities from scratch and operating them on an ongoing basis
  • Agency-side experience running Discord/Reddit community operations for game clients, or in-house Discord/Reddit community operations at a game company, or agency experience specializing in Discord/Reddit community operations
  • Experience establishing community rules, moderation policies, escalation flows, and leading incident and crisis response
  • Experience building a team of moderators, contractors, or part-time staff and providing direction, training, review, and quality control
  • Deep understanding of Discord and Reddit mechanics, tooling, policies, and Terms of Service
  • Experience designing KPIs and delivering data-based community evaluation and reporting
  • Deep understanding of anime, manga, and/or game fandom culture and North American fan communities
  • Native-level English, including public-facing community communication, client proposals, and reporting
  • Ability to work autonomously as a founding member of a new service line and build processes and structures from zero
  • Preferred: experience launching a community management service or team inside an agency
  • Preferred: experience operating official communities for Japanese anime, manga, or game IPs in North America
  • Preferred: experience participating in client proposals and sales meetings and serving as the primary client contact after award
  • Preferred: business-level Japanese or experience working with Japanese clients and cross-border teams
  • Preferred: experience collaborating with Discord, Reddit, or other platform partner or Trust & Safety teams
  • Preferred: experience with community analytics/reporting tools, Discord bot development/configuration, and advanced Reddit AutoModerator setup
  • Preferred: familiarity with Japanese IP licensing and approval workflows
  • Preferred: experience operating additional community platforms such as Twitch, YouTube community, or Steam community
