About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Participate in projects to improve plant safety, including LOTO, machine guarding, PIV safety and other areas as needed
- Lead incident investigations using formal investigation methods and 3M reporting systems
- Ensure environmental compliance through sampling, reporting and awareness
- Support plant leadership in reporting site safety performance and environmental compliance
- Support employee health through hearing conservation, PPE, air sampling and ergonomics programs
- Work directly with plant engineering and maintenance to ensure effective facility management related to fixed fire protection, ventilation, spill containment and other required factors
- Develop and deliver new EHS training programs
- Contribute to a strong EHS culture by following safety policies, identifying hazards and engaging in continuous improvement
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or higher in a mechanical, environmental engineering or science discipline, completed and verified prior to start
- Three (3) years’ experience with EHS programs and procedures in a private, public, government or military environment
- Current, valid Driver’s License
- Master’s degree in related discipline from an accredited institution
- Professional safety certification (CRSP)
- Working knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Demonstrated experience leading improvement projects related to EHS
- Experience collaborating with maintenance, engineering and operations teams to implement new safety procedures and programs
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work closely with all employees within the plant
