About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead daily QA activities within the Food Center, including finished product inspections, in-process checks, sanitation verification, environmental monitoring, documentation review and release readiness
- Perform and verify physical, sensory, organoleptic and specification-based product evaluations
- Review production, HACCP/PCP, sanitation, receiving, temperature, allergen changeover and pre-operational records
- Maintain and support HACCP/Preventive Control Plan and GFSI/SQF programs
- Lead GMP monitoring and enforcement on the production floor
- Train and support production, sanitation, receiving and warehouse teams on GMPs, SSOPs, SOPs, allergen controls, product quality and food safety
- Conduct sanitation and pre-operational inspections and verify cleaning effectiveness
- Support environmental monitoring, including sample collection, lab submission, result review, trend analysis and corrective actions
- Verify allergen controls, product labels, ingredient statements, allergen declarations, lot codes, best-before dates and packaging specifications
- Conduct receiving inspections for ingredients and packaging
- Place non-conforming materials and products on hold and support disposition decisions
- Investigate quality issues, food safety deviations, complaints, foreign material concerns, lab failures, shelf-life concerns and audit findings
- Issue, track, verify and close corrective and preventive actions
- Conduct mock recalls and traceability exercises
- Maintain recall, withdrawal, hold, rework, non-conformance and disposition documentation
- Support shelf-life studies, lab testing, product investigations, sensory panels, product presentations and new product development
- Manage or support nutritional and product specification information using Genesis Software
- Lead or support internal, external, regulatory, customer and supplier audits
- Monitor QA and food safety performance trends
- Communicate food safety and quality risks to leadership and stakeholders
- Support continuous improvement projects
- Provide QA coverage and direction during production
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Calgary-based, on-site availability for a 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. schedule, with occasional early starts and weekend work
- RTF, SQF and QA experience in food service, food manufacturing, and/or airline catering
- 2 years of experience
- Bachelor's/4-year degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or Nutrition
- Valid HACCP Certificate
- GFSI Scheme Practitioner knowledge
- Basic laboratory experience, including physical and organoleptic testing
- Knowledge of laboratory procedures and interpretation of results, product development and quality assurance
- Experience conducting sensory panels and physical and organoleptic food analyses, with written summaries including recommendations/conclusions
- Experience managing outside vendors for quality issues
- Good leadership, interpersonal skills and self-direction
