About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support and provide input to the Engineering team in evaluating, developing, and innovating new products
  • Provide leadership and training for new Lab Technicians
  • Maintain complete technical understanding of lab test setups and procedures
  • Develop testing protocols and schedules with team engineers to improve efficiency and productivity
  • Direct at least two support personnel on project teams to review and process data
  • Manage multiple projects and keep them moving through the lab in a timely manner
  • Review project instructions and prints to determine test specifications, procedures, objectives, equipment, technical problems, and possible solutions
  • Set up, assist with, and test units according to diagrams and instructions
  • Observe and record test and evaluation results
  • Build prototypes and test equipment from drawings
  • Log and distribute test results to Engineering and file them
  • Maintain safe practices and a professional work area
  • Learn and apply ANSI, UL, and EC standards
  • Use and service lab equipment for testing and prototype development
  • Guide and instruct other lab technicians
  • Develop model-making, sheet-metal layout and fabrication, welding, machining, soldering, and metalworking skills
  • Conduct the test certification program under the direction of a test agency representative

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Associate Degree in Engineering or Related Field with 7+ years of related work experience preferred
  • In lieu of degree, 10+ years of related work experience and High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience working in a test lab environment
  • Completed at least one major project from start to finish
  • Experience testing boilers, water heaters, pool heaters, or other gas appliances to standards
  • Experience using and servicing most lab equipment
  • Working knowledge of CSA tests and proper test data recording
  • Working knowledge of basic algebraic functions
  • Ability to act with limited supervision on initial unit setup and troubleshooting
  • Independent decision-making and analysis
  • Ability to analyze problems, present solutions, and implement decisions
  • Ability to recognize incorrect parameters and unit malfunctions
  • Understanding of required test data collection, recording procedures, and data interpretation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
