About the role

- Contact insureds and other affected parties
- Set expectations for the claim process and initiate documentation in the claim handling system
- Complete complex coverage analysis
- Identify all possible policyholder benefits
- Create additional sub-claims when needed
- Investigate claim facts to determine payment, applicable limits or exclusions, and recovery potential
- Review damages and determine applicability of state law and other claim factors
- Evaluate the financial value of losses
- Approve payments for appropriate parties
- Refer claims to Underwriting, Recovery Units, or the Claims Special Investigation Unit when necessary
- Document and code claim files and complete closure activities in the claims management system
- Negotiate claim settlements
- Handle Homeowner/CAT field claims valued over $100,000
- Investigate claims requiring in-depth coverage analysis
- Prepare damage estimates using claims software for field claims
- Review estimates for accuracy
- Monitor contractor repair status when needed
- Assist the Claim Manager with file reviews and training when needed
- Conduct on-site property inspections and assess damage
- Guide policyholders through the claims process
- Support catastrophe response efforts for large-scale weather events and natural disasters
- Travel within the assigned local market approximately 10% of the time, with no overnight travel and a company vehicle provided
- Work a hybrid field schedule Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM EST
Requirements
What you’ll need- Complete ACG Claim Representative Training Program or demonstrate equivalent knowledge or experience
- In states where required, eligible to acquire a State Adjuster’s license within 90 days of hire and maintain it as specified
- Valid State Driver's License
- Three years of experience or equivalent training in negotiation of claim settlements, securing and evaluating evidence, preparing manual and electronic estimates, subrogation claims, resolving coverage questions, taking statements, and establishing claim evaluation and resolution plans
- Advanced knowledge of the Essential Insurance Act (Michigan)
- Knowledge of Fair Trade Practices Act as it relates to claims
- Knowledge of subrogation procedures and processes
- Knowledge of intercompany arbitration
- Knowledge of handling simple litigation
- Knowledge of building construction and repair techniques
- Ability to handle claims to Claim Handling Standards
- Ability to follow and apply ACG Claim policies, procedures and guidelines
- Ability to work within assigned ACG Claim systems including basic PC software
- Ability to perform basic claim file review and investigations
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Customer service and relationship-management skills
- Problem-solving and sound decision-making skills
- Ability to prioritize claim-related functions
- Ability to process time-sensitive data and information from multiple sources
- Time-management, organization, and workload-planning skills
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for field visits
- Ability to research, analyze, and interpret subrogation laws in various states
- Ability to travel outside assigned territory, potentially involving overnight stays
- Ability to relocate and work evenings or weekends
- Preferred: Associate degree in Business Administration, Insurance, or a related field, or equivalent related work experience
- Preferred: Completion of the Insurance Institute of America's General Insurance Program, associate degree in claims, associate degree in management, or equivalent
- Preferred: Xactware Training
- Preferred: 2–4 years of full-cycle homeowners claims handling experience
- Preferred: Experience handling personal property and additional living expense claims
- Preferred: Experience with internal water loss, fire, and smoke claims
- Ability to walk on roofs
- Ability to climb ladders
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
- Background and drug screening required for employment
