About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Operate as the Sr. Field Application Engineer for ABB’s Electrification business within the Eastern PA and DE trade areas
- Serve as technical lead for consulting engineers, end users, EPC and design-build customers
- Ensure ABB products and solutions achieve preferred/acceptable manufacturer status in project specifications
- Collaborate with consultant, end user, utility and EPC/DBC engineers to define electrical project needs
- Supply design assistance, product selection, value engineering, budgeting and education on ABB solutions
- Work closely with the local sales team
- Act as local product expert for MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers, motor control, power monitoring and circuit breakers
- Illustrate the benefits of short circuit, coordination and arc flash mitigation concepts using SKM or Easy Power
- Educate customers and articulate complex technical concepts to engineers, contractors and users
- Participate in and engage in developing papers for IEEE and other industry events/conferences
- Bring customer feedback on new product opportunities, product gaps and market trends to commercial and product management leadership
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. degree in engineering, preferably electrical, with a minimum of 8+ years of experience in the electrical distribution industry OR a master’s degree in engineering with 4+ years of experience in the same
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards: ANSI, IEEE, NEC, NEMA, NFPA 70E, UL
- Previous field, plant or design engineering in electrical power systems at major oil and gas companies, electric utilities or industrial facilities
- Proficiency applying MV/LV switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, transformers and arc flash mitigation technologies
- Strong knowledge of short circuit, coordination and arc flash mitigation concepts
- Ability to use tools such as SKM or Easy Power
- Strong public speaking skills and ability to develop and articulate complex technical concepts
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to consider multiple viewpoints and resolve technical issues
- Fluent in English, speaking and writing
- Candidates must already have work authorization permitting them to work for ABB in the US
- PE certification is preferred
