About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as the scientific bridge between Abbott and the laboratory community
  • Partner with laboratory directors, pathologists, clinical laboratory leaders, physicians, and key opinion leaders
  • Build and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships
  • Lead scientific discussions on laboratory medicine, diagnostic testing, clinical evidence, disease state education, and emerging technologies
  • Understand workflow challenges, implementation needs, testing trends, and opportunities to improve patient outcomes
  • Serve as a scientific expert on laboratory operations, diagnostic utilization, assay performance, and clinical application of diagnostic technologies
  • Gather and communicate customer needs, competitive intelligence, testing practices, and market trends
  • Support evidence-generation activities, investigator-sponsored research, clinical studies, and publication planning
  • Develop and deliver scientific presentations, educational programs, abstracts, publications, and medical content
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support adoption and utilization of diagnostic solutions
  • Assist with investigator engagement, protocol implementation, study execution, safety reporting, and regulatory documentation
  • Lead complex projects and apply scientific expertise to solve challenges across laboratory and healthcare environments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 7 years of clinical experience or technical experience in product development or support
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience
  • Ability to travel up to 40%
  • Master’s Degree in Science preferred
  • Ph.D., MD, or DO preferred
  • Preferably over 7 years’ experience within the Division in a technical area
  • Previous management experience preferred
  • Knowledge of how Division functional areas work together and understanding of customer needs
  • Effective communication skills for presentations
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Strong knowledge of the relationship between medical practice, clinical practice, and the laboratory
  • Willingness to work on site daily in Lake Forest, IL, Chicago, IL, or Irving, TX
  • Ability to work with human blood or other potentially infectious materials and infectious organisms or known infectious materials
