About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead the design, development, and testing of software applications for Abbott Cancer Diagnostics
  • Create software design concepts and debug applications
  • Develop, enhance, and sustain software systems in a cross-functional team environment
  • Follow established design control processes and good engineering practices
  • Design and create engineering specifications based on documented software requirements
  • Determine appropriate development methodologies
  • Troubleshoot medium-complexity issues in major software applications
  • Break down complex tasks, make decisions, investigate and fix bugs, and work independently
  • Initiate software designs and lead reviews of design alternatives, problems, and solutions
  • Influence project decisions and select methods and techniques for solutions
  • Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to junior team members
  • Build partnerships with peers, subject matter experts, stakeholders, and decision-makers
  • Communicate project plans, designs, and status updates
  • Uphold Abbott’s mission and values and comply with its Quality Management System

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or Engineering; or High School Diploma/General Education Degree and 4 years of relevant experience
  • Complete knowledge and full understanding of software development design and development
  • Significant experience with object-oriented programming
  • Experience with RESTful web services, relational databases (Postgres, SQL Server), and ORM technologies (JPA2, Hibernate, Entity Framework)
  • Experience designing and developing applications using cloud-based frameworks such as Azure or Amazon AWS Services/SDKs
  • Experience with Agile development tools, including JIRA and Confluence
  • Knowledge of C++, Java, JavaScript, Python, SQL, PL/SQL, .NET, and Google Web Toolkit
  • Currently authorized to work in the country where work will be performed; employment visa sponsorship is unavailable
  • Ability to perform essential duties with or without accommodation
  • Preferred: 5+ years of experience in Software Engineering
  • Preferred: strong knowledge of HL7 and FHIR
  • Preferred: Java as a core language
  • Preferred: Spring Boot or Spring for microservices
  • Preferred: Maven
  • Preferred: Kafka or other queuing systems
  • Ability to work nights and/or weekends as needed
  • Regular and reliable attendance
