About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design and implement federation identity and access management solutions aligned with business requirements
Integrate federation technologies with enterprise and cloud systems, including Active Directory, HR systems, and cloud applications, using SAML 2.0, OIDC, and OAuth 2.0
Develop and maintain custom authentication experiences using Okta APIs, SDKs, and widget-based login flows
Configure and support MFA technologies including PingID, Okta Verify, Microsoft Authenticator, FIDO2, biometric, and OTP/push authentication
Troubleshoot and resolve federation authentication and authorization issues
Analyze logs and diagnose user provisioning challenges
Monitor, optimize, and ensure the scalability and performance of federation infrastructure
Provide technical guidance and support to administrators and end users
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, vendors, and external partners
Document federation configurations, processes, and procedures
Stay current on industry trends and recommend improvements
Support secure identity and authentication services for AbbVie’s global workforce of 80,000 users and customer identities

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience OR Master’s degree with 4 years of experience
Minimum 4 years of experience with Okta and Ping Federate
Proven experience as a Federation Engineer or similar role
Strong understanding of identity and access management principles
Hands-on experience with Okta Identity Engine (OIE) for CIAM workflows, including registration flows, self-service, B2C/B2B identity patterns, and Sign-In Widget
Knowledge of federation platform features including user lifecycle management, SSO, and MFA
Advanced proficiency in PowerShell scripting
Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, and PingFederate
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams
Strong attention to detail and task prioritization in a fast-paced environment
Preferred: certifications such as Okta Certified Administrator, Ping Federate/PingOne Certified, or Microsoft Entra ID
Preferred: experience supporting large-scale environments with 10,000+ users; 80,000+ users preferred
Knowledge of security best practices and compliance frameworks such as NIST and ISO 27001
Willingness to travel 5% of the time
