About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist in managing and executing Absa’s strategic Mergers and Acquisitions agenda and ensure governance and control
- Develop and manage the group’s strategic M&A agenda with senior management
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Provide market coverage by business segment and geography
- Evaluate acquisition, disposal and joint venture business cases
- Prepare valuations
- Oversee due diligence and smooth execution of transactions
- Develop final acquisition, disposal and JV business cases
- Lead deal structuring from start to finish
- Negotiate key terms and legal documentation submitted to the client
- Manage offer and bidding processes
- Oversee preparation of announcements
- Manage Conditions Precedent resolution and oversee completion processes
- Establish and manage deal teams and insider lists
- Select, engage and manage advisors
- Implement Confidentiality Agreements
- Manage internal approval processes for acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures
- Perform M&A evaluation support for Absa’s Group Investment Committee
- Communicate activity developments to relevant internal and external stakeholders
- Maintain relationships with business partners, including delivery channels, group marketing and group communications
- Provide required management information to business partners
- Perform other reasonably assigned duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- CA (SA) or equivalent preferred; alternatives considered based on relevant knowledge, skills and experience
- Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas in Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
- Minimum 2 years post-qualifying experience in investment banking, corporate finance, transaction services or private equity
- 5 years post-qualifying experience in investment banking, corporate finance, transaction services or private equity desirable
- Excellent analytical and technical skills, including financial analysis, valuation, due diligence, modelling and commercial documentation
- Experience in a global investment banking environment with exposure to M&A international best practice
- Banking and insurance sector M&A experience, including African M&A experience
- Tactful and persuasive, with the ability to convince people at various levels of the organization
- Strategic and commercial mindset
- Problem-solving and solutions-oriented approach
- Strong attention to detail and analytical approach
- Persistent nature and data-driven working style
- Ability to work in a team environment and foster knowledge sharing and mentoring
- Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Competencies in technical knowledge, business skills, control environment, personal and interpersonal skills, and commercial effectiveness
