About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Coordinate regulatory compliance activities across geographically and culturally diverse teams and jurisdictions
Design ABM Compliance and cluster risk management strategies and oversee implementation
Develop and maintain the compliance operating model
Ensure alignment with global best practice, Absa Group requirements, and Banco de Mozambique requirements
Participate in ABM Compliance and BU risk management leadership teams
Engage across business lines to benchmark and share compliance best practices
Establish the group’s compliance risk appetite and supporting controls framework
Lead delivery of agreed compliance activities with the direct management team
Serve as the central point of entry for BU regulatory compliance activities and related policies
Review, challenge, and roll out compliance policies and standards
Develop cost-effective solutions to optimize the compliance framework
Manage the function’s financial plan and operational budget
Build relationships with senior business leaders to promote ownership and awareness of Compliance
Attend Compliance Forums and Conferences
Contribute to the Africa Compliance strategy and framework
Set targets and oversee BU Compliance team performance across cost, risk, controls, employees, and governance
Conduct monthly oversight reviews with direct reports and support corrective actions
Advise business unit heads on new business categories, acquisitions, disposals, and joint ventures
Keep stakeholders informed through regular reports on compliance operations, progress, emerging issues, and risks

Requirements

What you’ll need

Higher Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
Knowledge of Absa Group and Banco de Mozambique requirements
Knowledge of regulatory compliance policies, standards, frameworks, and risk management
Experience coordinating regulatory compliance activities across geographically and culturally diverse teams and jurisdictions
Ability to develop and maintain compliance operating models
Ability to manage financial plans and operational budgets
Ability to engage with senior executives and business leaders
Ability to conduct oversight reviews, identify corrective actions, and escalate major issues
Ability to advise on new business categories, acquisitions, disposals, and joint ventures
Ability to prepare regular regulatory compliance reports
