About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee maintenance programs for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and fire/life safety systems
  • Develop and implement standardized preventative maintenance programs, inspection procedures, and reporting systems
  • Conduct property inspections evaluating equipment conditions, maintenance standards, safety, and regulatory compliance
  • Identify opportunities to improve building performance, energy efficiency, and operational costs
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to General Managers and onsite engineering teams
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, permits, inspections, and safety requirements
  • Develop scopes of work, evaluate vendor proposals, and review service contracts
  • Provide technical oversight and recommendations for major repairs, equipment replacements, and capital improvement projects
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through vendor partnerships, purchasing programs, and utility incentives
  • Support management teams with escalated engineering concerns and recommendations to Boards of Directors
  • Coach, mentor, and train engineering and maintenance personnel
  • Evaluate technical capabilities, identify training needs, and establish engineering best practices
  • Interview and assess engineering candidates with Talent Acquisition and management teams
  • Supervise designated roving maintenance and in-unit service teams
  • Facilitate engineering meetings and training sessions
  • Prepare inspection reports, maintenance assessments, and recommendations
  • Support new property transitions, building commissioning, and startup activities
  • Develop emergency response procedures and assist during property emergencies
  • Provide temporary onsite engineering coverage when needed
  • Support business development efforts, special maintenance projects, and other engineering initiatives
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in building engineering, facilities maintenance, or related operations preferred
  • Prior experience supervising or leading engineering and maintenance personnel required
  • Experience with high-rise residential, luxury condominium, hospitality, or commercial buildings strongly preferred
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, building automation, and fire/life safety systems
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, regulatory requirements, and workplace safety standards
  • Strong technical troubleshooting, project management, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and collaborate with multiple stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with maintenance management software preferred
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel between assigned properties as required
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • EPA Technician Certification
  • EPA Universal Section 608
  • HVAC certificate
  • High Rise Fire Safety Director within 6 months of hire
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting
  • Capable of lifting up to 75 pounds as needed
  • Must be available to respond to after-hour property emergencies, including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout Texas and California for company meetings, training, and other business needs
