About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build an AI-powered finance stack
- Build and own the financial forecast from lab capacity, throughput, and price per protein through P&L, burn, and runway
- Own gross margin analysis, including experiment costs and profitability by product and customer
- Own pricing strategy with the commercial team
- Run the close across two entities, including group consolidation and intercompany management
- Manage cash across Swiss and US bank and card accounts, AP runs, AR collection, and payment timing
- Maintain compliance across tax, VAT, audit, payroll, and external firms
- Provide investor reporting, fundraising support, and treasury management
- Manage equipment leasing, financing decisions, balance-sheet impact, and the asset register
- Automate finance processes
- Collaborate closely with procurement on costs while leaving sourcing and vendor relationships to procurement
- Support board reporting and work with teams, customers, and the lab as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Several years in finance at a startup that scaled, ideally with experience setting up the function early
- Ability to build financial models tying throughput, yield, capacity, headcount, cash, and operations together
- SQL required; Python ideally
- Experience automating finance workflows and using APIs
- Understanding of physical-business cost structures, including reagents, instruments, consumables, capex versus COGS, and yield loss
- Swiss and European finance experience, including VAT, social charges, and employment law
- Experience with a US entity alongside a Swiss entity is a plus
- Trustworthiness with salaries, revenue, investor communications, and board material
- Ambition to run finance at a larger company
- Willingness to work hands-on in a small company and take on tasks beyond defined responsibilities
