About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the implementation of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes across Ruby services and supporting components.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, refinements, and retrospectives.
- Conduct and participate in thorough code reviews while maintaining team coding standards.
- Mentor team members and contribute to knowledge sharing.
- Collaborate with Product Owners and Domain Experts to clarify requirements, validate solutions, and refine acceptance criteria.
- Partner with DevOps/Platform teams on CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and operational runbooks.
- Drive continuous improvement through refactoring, increasing test coverage, performance tuning, and technical debt reduction.
- Support production incident triage, contribute to postmortems, and implement preventative measures.
- Design and develop reliable backend services and APIs.
- Contribute to the architecture and evolution of service-oriented and distributed systems.
Requirements
What you’ll need- 5+ years of professional software development experience with strong proficiency in Ruby.
- Strong experience building and operating backend services and APIs using REST and/or GraphQL.
- Solid understanding of service-oriented architecture and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Strong knowledge of relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including schema design and SQL optimization.
- Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks such as RSpec or Minitest, including factory tools and test-first development.
- Familiarity with caching and real-time technologies such as Redis or equivalent.
- Experience with CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or Azure DevOps.
- Strong knowledge of Git and modern code-review workflows, including branching and merge strategies.
- Proficiency in object-oriented programming.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with distributed teams across different time zones.
