About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as a Clinical Athletic Trainer in primary care sports medicine, orthopedic, musculoskeletal, and/or clinical settings
- Deliver high-quality care to patients of all ages and skill levels
- Assist with administration, supervision, and evaluation of patient care
- Provide injury prevention, immediate emergency care, clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and reconditioning
- Perform injury assessments and refer patients for necessary care
- Triage patients, answer questions, and instruct patients in self-care, prevention, and treatment
- Collaborate with physicians and the medical team to determine the need for special tests or services
- Establish and implement individualized plans of care based on evaluation results and health goals
- Communicate plans of care to everyone involved in the patient's care
- Monitor outcomes and adjust treatment plans based on patient response
- Advocate for patients by working with physicians and key professionals
- Address patients' physical and psychosocial comfort needs
- Complete after-visit summaries, home exercise programs, patient/family teaching, community-service referrals, and equipment orders
- Complete required patient-care documentation, including assessments, progress notes, and after-visit summaries
- Perform patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties
- Provide age-appropriate care based on growth and development principles
- Work a split schedule between Prosperity and Albemarle clinics
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC)
- Currently licensed or eligible for an Athletic Trainer license issued by the state in which the teammate practices within 30 days of hire
- Ability to complete American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS), including CPR and AED training, within 30 days of hire
- Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a CAATE-accredited program
- No experience required
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to understand and communicate medical terminology
- Ability to explain processes to patients in plain language and use teach-back to ensure understanding
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height
- Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
- Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
- Ability to work under stressful situations
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and remain well organized
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and in varying indoor/outdoor environments
- Ability to travel and tolerate weather and road conditions
- Functional use of senses for effective communication
- Ability to perform fine manipulation for dressing, stitch and staple removal
- Ability to frequently walk, assist, and lift patients
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
- Ability to wear protective apparel when exposed to electrical, chemical, blood, and bodily-fluid hazards
