About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Perform injury assessments and refer patients for necessary care
- Communicate with patients to triage, answer questions, and instruct in self-care, prevention, and treatment
- Communicate with physicians and the medical team to determine the need for special tests or services
- Establish and implement individualized treatment plans based on evaluation results and health goals
- Monitor and evaluate outcomes and adjust treatment plans based on patient response
- Recognize potential issues and advocate for patients with physicians and key professionals
- Identify and address patients' physical and psychosocial comfort needs
- Work with a diverse patient population and provide age-appropriate care
- Complete patient after-visit summaries, written home exercise programs, patient/family teaching, community-service referrals, and equipment orders
- Complete required documentation, including patient assessments, progress notes, and after-visit summaries
- Perform patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties using proper technique
- Travel to satellite clinics, including the Plymouth site, as needed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC)
- Currently licensed or eligible for an Athletic Trainer license issued by the state in which the teammate practices within 30 days of hire
- Ability to complete American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS), including CPR and AED training, within 30 days of hire
- Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) program
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to understand and communicate medical terminology
- Ability to explain processes to patients in plain language and use teach-back to ensure understanding
- Problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
- Ability to lift up to 10 lbs. from waist to overhead
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. at waist height a reasonable distance
- Ability to work under stressful situations
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and remain well organized
- Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
- Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and in varying office and outdoor environments
- Ability to travel to satellite clinics and work in varying weather and road conditions
- Functional use of senses for effective communication
- Ability to perform fine manipulation for dressing, stitches, staple removal, and similar tasks
- Must frequently walk, assist, and lift patients as needed
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
- Ability to wear protective apparel when exposed to electrical, chemical, blood, and bodily-fluid hazards
