About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform cardiac ultrasound procedures including M-mode, 2-D, Doppler and Color Flow Doppler
  • Utilize a variety of equipment and techniques and make measurements required for interpretation
  • Assist physicians in Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs with echocardiograph studies for complex procedures
  • Identify and define cardiac abnormalities and appropriately extend examinations
  • Prepare patients and obtain clinical histories, physical findings and pertinent laboratory data
  • Adapt imaging techniques to obtain comprehensive, diagnostic echocardiograms
  • Assist cardiologists with transesophageal studies, calculate measurements and sterilize probes
  • Communicate clinical findings to appropriate staff
  • Record statistics and perform daily maintenance of the Echocardiography Lab and equipment
  • Report equipment malfunctions as appropriate
  • Provide care appropriate to patients' ages and developmental needs
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Advanced training beyond High School, including completion of an accredited or approved program in Sonography
  • Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS-AE) registration with Adult Echo issued by the ARDMS needs to be obtained within 1 year, or Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) registration issued by the CCI
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the AHA needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader determines it is not required
  • No experience required
  • Knowledge and ability to apply complex sonographic principles, instrumentation and techniques
  • Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology
  • Excellent interpersonal and patient service skills
  • Intermediate computer skills
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and assess age-specific needs
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
  • Ability to sit 50% and stand and walk 20% of the workday
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. over the head
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force
  • Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
  • Ability to frequently push or pull over 100 lbs.
  • Ability to use hands and feet to operate equipment
  • Functional speech, vision and hearing
  • Ability to wear protective clothing as needed and work around mechanical, electrical and chemical hazards
