About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow applicable policies and procedures
  • Perform rooming and visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
  • Assist providers with or perform ordered procedures
  • Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, lab requisition preparation, results tracking, and point-of-care testing
  • Complete CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing
  • Administer medications and vaccines safely
  • Perform medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety and regulatory logs, patient messaging, medication and supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
  • Cross-train and perform specialty or clinic duties within the Medical Assistant scope
  • Communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and escalate appropriately
  • Maintain a clean work environment and ensure equipment and supplies are functional and stocked
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and age-specific needs
  • Work Monday through Friday, 8 AM–5 PM or 9 AM–6 PM depending on site

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an accredited or approved Medical Assistant program, or qualifying structured military training/EMT depending on division
  • Current or required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association, depending on division
  • Medical Assistant certification credentials listed for Wake Forest
  • Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
  • Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, email, and exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
  • Ability to perform required standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary for the job
  • No experience required
