About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee pharmaceutical care, including retrieving and evaluating biomedical literature and designing medication therapy regimens
  • Provide patient and caregiver counseling on medication therapy, adverse effects, compliance, appropriate use, handling, and administration
  • Design, recommend, monitor, and evaluate patient-specific pharmacotherapeutic regimens
  • Implement recommendations and document them in the appropriate format
  • Review and accurately interpret medication orders and prescriptions
  • Participate in medical emergency management when applicable
  • Support medication safety and quality improvement activities, including event reporting
  • Perform quality assurance and performance improvement of the medication use system
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team on formulary adherence and the medication-use process
  • Assist with non-formulary, compassionate use, and investigational medication acquisition
  • Prepare, dispense, store, and handle medications according to regulations and best practices
  • Serve as preceptor for pharmacy students, residents, and healthcare learners
  • Mentor, orient, train, and assist with performance evaluations of pharmacy teammates, residents, and students
  • Direct and check pharmacy support team work for safe, efficient workflows, service standards, and regulatory compliance
  • Practice in compliance with organizational policies and local, state, and federal regulations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Licensed in the state(s) of practice or eligible for reciprocity required
  • Board certification in area of practice or certification approved by region/area pharmacist career ladder required
  • Immunization and non-vaccine injectable certification required based on area of practice
  • Credentialing and privileging required based on area of practice
  • Bachelor’s or Doctorate degree in pharmacy from an ACPE-accredited school of pharmacy required, or an FPGEC certificate from NABP
  • At least 3 years of experience as a licensed pharmacist, including residency
  • Pharmacy residency training or equivalent experience required
  • Direct experience with training, education or preceptor roles required
  • Maintains skills in area of practice
  • Strong computer skills
  • Excellent communication and organization skills
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and training development skills
  • Decision making, team building, customer service, and conflict resolution skills
  • Life support training courses may be required dependent upon department discretion
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate patient care
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds and push a mobile cart weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform writing, typing, data entry, and automated dispensing machine tasks
  • Must be able to see clearly, read small font, and have functional speech, vision, and hearing
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
