About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assess and monitor patients' and clients' nutritional status
- Adjust nutritional care using current scientific literature, medical status, anthropometric data, clinical assessment, and nutrition evaluation
- Provide medical nutrition therapy and counseling, including assessment, education, development, monitoring, and implementation
- Complete consults and referrals
- Coordinate nutrition care with physicians, nurses, and other care team members
- Complete nutritional care plans, assessments, consultations, nutrient intake analyses, and patient/client education documentation
- Assess the effectiveness of patient/client and family education
- Develop, evaluate, and use appropriate education materials
- Identify learning needs and evaluate and document learner responses
- Provide or develop periodic in-services for team members and other disciplines
- Participate in orientation, training, and mentoring of team members and dietetic interns under manager guidance
- Teach and disseminate nutrition research findings to medical team members, nursing, pharmacy, patients, and the public
- Communicate with multidisciplinary departments regarding patient/client care and issues
- Provide personnel performance feedback when requested or applicable
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree if RD before 1/1/2024; Master's degree if RD on or after 1/1/2024 required
- RD/LDN registry eligible or Registered Dietitian through the Commission on Dietetic Registration required
- Licensed by the applicable state Board of Dietetics and Nutrition required
- If RD/LDN registry eligible, RD/LDN registration required within 4 months of hire
- Specialty certification such as CDCES, CNSC, or AND Certifications may be required
- Knowledge of growth and development principles and competency appropriate to the ages, cultures, developmental stages, and special needs of the population served
- Must be able to continuously give and receive verbal communications
- Must be able to continuously read written communications in hard copy and on a computer screen
- Able to frequently compose written communications
- Able to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing 25 pounds or less
- Able to perform reaching motor skills
- Frequent walking, standing, and sitting; infrequent squatting, twisting, and bending
