About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks vital to patient care
- Adhere to regulations and guidelines to ensure patient safety and confidentiality
- Review patient medication and medical history prior to procedures to determine appropriate procedural location and needs
- Use the nursing process to provide ongoing care
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient status and care needs
- Determine priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs
- Provide patient education and counseling on tasks, skills, treatment, and self-care
- Follow through on procedure or test requests, prescription refills, appointment changes, and referrals
- Refer questions to physicians/providers and relay information to patients as directed
- Assist with staff orientation, competency, and educational activities
- Act as an expert clinical and department resource
- Provide work direction to other staff as needed
- Assist with patient care flow and provision of services
- Support providers and connect with patients to ensure a seamless, compassionate experience
- Work with the ambulatory gastroenterology care team to deliver coordinated digestive-health care
Requirements
What you’ll need- Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 45 days unless determined not required
- Advanced training beyond High School, including completion of an accredited or approved Practical Nursing program
- Preferred team member in Wisconsin due to training and meeting requirements
- Ability to review patient medication and medical history prior to procedures
- Knowledge of the nursing process and ability to assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate
- Ability to provide basic to complex patient education and counseling
- Knowledge of age-specific patient care and growth and development principles
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently
- Ability to lift and support 35 pounds
- Ability to push/pull with 30 pounds of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 pounds with a second person
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures
- Ability to maneuver foot pedals
- Ability to perform patient restraint and verbal de-escalation if needed
- Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient or unit conditions
- Physical Abilities Testing may be required
