About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and room patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs and documenting or updating pertinent health information
  • Perform laboratory procedures, including strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection, using aseptic technique and infection-control guidelines
  • Assist physicians/providers with procedures and surgeries, including pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy
  • Administer medications under physician/provider orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, pain medications, vitamins, topical agents, and insulin
  • Initiate, maintain, and discontinue IV therapy within scope and administer selected fluids with premixed medications
  • Provide basic patient education on procedures, treatments, skills, and self-care
  • Follow through on procedure or test requests, prescription refills, appointments, and referrals
  • Refer questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers according to scope-of-practice guidelines and relay information to patients
  • Communicate with physicians and healthcare team members regarding patient conditions
  • Document and communicate accurate, timely patient information
  • Perform advanced clinical tasks, including suture and staple removal, catheterization, audiograms, phlebotomy, EKGs, spirometry, Holter monitor application, casting, and complex wound care
  • Organize and prepare exam rooms, laboratories, and work areas; clean, stock, order supplies, and maintain equipment
  • Perform patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting and pushing/pulling
  • Complete routine maintenance and quality monitoring of clinic equipment and instruments
  • Participate in patient-centered initiatives, care management, performance, and quality-improvement activities
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state in which the team member practices
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 45 days unless determined unnecessary by the department leader
  • Completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing
  • No experience required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows operating system navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Ability to perform required physical activities, including lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs over the head
  • Ability to carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs of force
  • Ability to perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with fine-hand manipulation skills
  • Ability to operate all equipment essential to perform the job
  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed
