About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provides leadership and accountability for the development and implementation of system-wide translation and interpretation systems
- Ensures services comply with state and federal regulations, accreditation and compliance requirements, and organizational policy
- Participates in strategic planning for language services throughout the system
- Leads quality monitoring and improvement initiatives for translation and interpretation services
- Builds relationships with management, employees and medical staff regarding services for LEP and deaf/hard of hearing populations
- Designs activities to improve, promote and publicize Translation and Interpretation Services
- Develops capital and operating budgets with the director
- Monitors budgets, analyzes variances and takes appropriate action
- Manages employees, including training, development, evaluation and personnel actions
- Provides direction and support to subordinate employees
- Participates in safety initiatives and completes safety-related competencies
- Coaches staff on performance, completes performance reviews and supports staff morale
Requirements
What you’ll need- Leadership experience is required
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in a medical environment performing medical verbal and written interpretation and translation, leading and prioritizing staff work, and acting as a resource to staff on complex cases
- Includes 1 year of supervisory experience in a medical environment
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Care Administration OR Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nursing
- Professional command of bilingual medical terminology, including anatomy and physiology, diagnostic process, treatment, prevention and health education models
- Knowledge of the ethics of medical interpreting as outlined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC)
- Ability to oversee interpreters involved in delivering difficult messages including death and dying
- Excellent human relations and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to utilize video interpreting techniques
- Must wear protective clothing when necessary
- Position requires travel and may involve exposure to road and weather hazards
