About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide leadership and accountability for the Language Access Interpreter Services Command Center and teammate scheduling
- Develop and implement system-wide translation and interpretation systems
- Ensure services comply with state and federal regulations, accreditation and compliance requirements, and organizational policy
- Participate in strategic planning for language services across the system
- Lead quality monitoring and improvement initiatives for translation and interpretation services
- Build relationships with management, employees and medical staff regarding services for LEP and deaf/hard of hearing populations
- Design activities to improve, promote and publicize Translation and Interpretation Services
- Develop capital and operating budgets with the director
- Monitor budgets, analyze variances and take appropriate action
- Manage, train, develop and evaluate employees
- Provide direction and support to subordinate employees
- Select, train, develop and evaluate subordinates and initiate personnel actions
- Participate in safety initiatives and risk mitigation
- Coach staff on performance, complete performance reviews and support staff morale
Requirements
What you’ll need- Leadership experience is required
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in a medical environment performing medical verbal and written interpretation and translation, leading and prioritizing staff work, and acting as a resource to staff on complex cases
- 1 year of supervisory experience in a medical environment
- Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Care Administration OR Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nursing
- Professional command of bilingual medical terminology, including anatomy and physiology, diagnostic process, treatment, prevention and health education models
- Knowledge of the ethics of medical interpreting as outlined by the National Council on Interpreting in Healthcare (NCIHC)
- Ability to oversee interpreters handling difficult messages including death and dying
- Excellent human relations and communication skills
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to utilize video interpreting techniques
- Ability to work M-F, 8:00a–5:00p
- Position requires travel
- Must wear protective clothing when necessary
