About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide expert consultation, leadership, and oversight for stroke program operations across market-area sites
- Manage Stroke Center certifications, quality-of-care management, and peer review
- Direct stroke center operations and integrate operational and clinical management across the continuum of stroke care
- Develop service strategies to achieve and maintain national benchmarks and best practices
- Maintain relationships among stroke centers and liaise with stroke coordinators, administrative leaders, and medical leadership
- Facilitate local stroke committees and quarterly site stroke steering committees
- Oversee Comprehensive/Primary Stroke Center certification applications, reports, action plans, and onsite certification visits
- Incorporate clinical practice guidelines into acute stroke response algorithms, order sets, care plans, and policies/procedures
- Establish, implement, and evaluate annual stroke program goals
- Support system stroke Practice and System Stroke Education committees
- Coordinate communication among stroke responders, emergency department personnel, inpatient units, stroke NPs, and hospital-based stroke programs
- Establish quality improvement plans and oversee stroke quality outcomes and measures
- Report quality data annually to the Quality and Safety Council
- Analyze stroke data and facilitate corrective action
- Develop and evaluate orientation and continuing education programs
- Coach staff and support career advancement and professional growth
- Coordinate staff resources, patient education supplies, and stroke office supplies
- Facilitate research-based nursing and integrate research into practice and strategic goals
- Provide expert clinical advice for multidisciplinary teaching, patient/family education, discharge planning, wellness, and health maintenance
- Coordinate community and EMS educational offerings
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master's Degree in Nursing or related field
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices
- Certified Stroke Registered Nurse (SCRN) certification issued by the American Board of Neuroscience Nurses, to be obtained within 2 years
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in stroke/neurosciences nursing and progressive leadership in nursing
- Experience with program coordination, project management, and regulatory and accreditation requirements
- 1 year of supervisory experience in stroke/neurosciences
- Working knowledge of quality and acute patient care needs related to stroke care
- Clinical expertise managing physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual patient needs throughout the care continuum
- Excellent analytical and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with physicians and other professionals
- Ability to operate all equipment essential to the duties
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and lift throughout the workday
- Ability to occasionally lift items weighing up to 20 lbs.
