About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow applicable policies and procedures
  • Perform rooming and visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
  • Assist providers with or perform ordered procedures
  • Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, lab order preparation, and results tracking
  • Conduct point-of-care testing and CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests in accordance with CLIA standards
  • Administer medications and vaccines safely
  • Process medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety and regulatory logs, patient messages, medication and supply orders, appointment scheduling, and referrals
  • Cross-train for specialty- or clinic-relevant Medical Assistant duties
  • Communicate effectively, work as part of a team, and escalate appropriately
  • Maintain clean work areas and ensure instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly maintained and stocked
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or qualifying structured military clinical training per DD214 or EMT
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification required for Greater Charlotte
  • Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
  • Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
  • Ability to perform required physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and reaching above shoulders
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
  • No experience required
