About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support the care team with clinical and administrative tasks vital to patient care
  • Welcome patients and support their transition into care
  • Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings
  • Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures
  • Administer medications and vaccines as directed
  • Perform specimen collection and point-of-care testing
  • Document care accurately in the electronic health record
  • Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver coordinated care
  • Float to other Advocate Heart Institute locations as needed

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience, or certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience
  • Phlebotomy skills preferred
  • Flexibility and willingness to float to other Advocate Heart Institute locations as needed, including Naperville, South Downers Grove, Westmont, and Aurora
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently
  • Ability to lift and support 35 pounds
  • Ability to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch; fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures
  • Ability to maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
  • Ability to perform physical safety interventions and verbal de-escalation if needed
  • Ability to respond quickly to changes in patient or unit conditions
  • Physical Abilities Testing may be required
  • Ability to work around chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable disease while using protective equipment
