About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support the care team by performing clinical and administrative tasks vital to patient care
- Welcome patients and support their transition into care
- Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings
- Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed
- Perform lab-related tasks, including specimen collection and point-of-care testing
- Document care accurately in the electronic health record
- Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care
- Support clinic visits and procedural care in gastroenterology
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must have a medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience, or be a certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience, to qualify
- Phlebotomy skills are preferred
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday
- Must be able to lift and support 35 pounds
- Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions
- Must maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines
- Must perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation if needed
- Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions
- Physical Abilities Testing may be required
- May be exposed to chemical and hazardous waste, blood and body fluids, and communicable disease; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary
