About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and room patients for examinations
  • Obtain vital signs and gather, document, and update pertinent health information
  • Monitor and complete Clinical Integration and Quality Improvement measures
  • Perform laboratory procedures, specimen collection, and testing using aseptic technique and infection-control guidelines
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice professionals with clinical procedures
  • Administer routine medications under physician/APP orders or approved protocols
  • Follow through on procedure and test requests, care algorithms, appointments, and referrals
  • Refer questions to registered nurses and physicians/APCs and relay information to patients
  • Communicate with physicians, APPs, and healthcare team members to maintain smooth clinic flow
  • Perform basic and advanced clinical support tasks as assigned, including suture and staple removal, phlebotomy, EKGs, spirometry, Holter monitor application, and prescription refills
  • Provide care appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients
  • Use protective clothing and equipment when exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body-fluid hazards
  • Perform other related duties as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) required
  • Current Medical Assistant certification from an approved certifying organization required: AAMA, NHA, NCCT, AMT, American Allied Health, NHCWA, NAHP, or NRMA
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program required
  • 1 yr experience preferred
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows operating system navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical records systems
  • Customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience
  • Ability to provide age-appropriate patient care and understand growth and development across the life span
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with fine-hand manipulation skills
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job
