About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow applicable policies and procedures
- Perform rooming and visit tasks including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
- Assist providers with or perform ordered procedures
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, lab-order preparation, and results tracking
- Conduct CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing according to CLIA standards
- Administer medications and vaccines safely
- Perform medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety and regulatory logs, patient messaging, medication and supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
- Communicate effectively and promptly, collaborate with teammates, and escalate appropriately
- Maintain a clean work environment and ensure equipment and supplies are clean, functional, and stocked
- Assist with training and onboarding teammates
- Potentially serve as a role champion or committee member
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or qualifying structured military clinical training/EMT; some divisions accept 2 years of verifiable full-time Medical Assistant experience within the last 5 years in lieu of program completion
- Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant
- Current AHA BLS certification required for Greater Charlotte and Wake Forest; other divisions require obtaining it within 45 days unless exempted
- Current CMA or RMA certification/registration from a recognized national organization, as applicable to the division
- Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment, where applicable
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, email, and exposure to electronic medical records
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
- Ability to perform required physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
- Ability to operate all equipment necessary for the job
- Ability to work safely around mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body-fluid hazards using protective equipment
