About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide patient care within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Perform rooming and visit tasks, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
- Assist providers with or perform ordered procedures
- Perform venipuncture, specimen collection, labeling, packing, lab requisitions, and results tracking
- Conduct point-of-care testing and CLIA-approved waived laboratory tests according to orders and standards
- Administer medications and vaccines safely
- Process medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety and regulatory logs, patient messages, supply orders, appointments, and referrals
- Communicate effectively, collaborate with teammates, and escalate issues appropriately
- Maintain a clean work environment and ensure equipment and supplies are operational and stocked
- Assist with teammate training and onboarding
- Serve as a role champion or committee member when assigned
- Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and developmental needs
- Operate all equipment necessary for the role and perform other related duties
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School Diploma or GED required
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or qualifying structured military clinical training/EMT; some divisions accept 2 years of verifiable full-time Medical Assistant experience within the last 5 years in lieu of the program
- Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant
- Current or required American Heart Association BLS certification, depending on division; some divisions require obtaining it within 45 days
- CMA or RMA certification/registration through an accepted national organization
- Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment where applicable
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Proficient computer skills, including keyboarding, Windows navigation, email, and exposure to electronic medical records
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience
- Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, touch, and fine-hand manipulation skills
- Ability to perform required standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and reaching
- Ability to work around mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body-fluid hazards using protective equipment
