About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Prepare and room patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs and gathering, documenting, and updating pertinent health information.
  • Perform laboratory procedures such as strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection using aseptic technique and infection-control guidelines.
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with procedures and surgeries, including pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy.
  • Administer routine medications under physician/APP orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
  • Provide basic patient instructions and follow through on procedure/test requests, care algorithms, appointments, and referrals.
  • Communicate with physicians and healthcare team members to ensure smooth clinic flow and provide accurate, timely patient information.
  • Prepare and assemble medical-record documentation and obtain prior medical records and test results.
  • Enter patient rooms with clinicians to capture and transcribe medical-record documentation in real time using electronic medical record applications.
  • Document clinician-patient communication using appropriate medical terminology and phrasing.
  • Prepare orders for follow-up testing, laboratory work, medications, consultations, and referrals, including associated diagnoses.
  • Document follow-up instructions and level-of-service designations as directed.
  • Complete medical records for each encounter and update patient histories and pertinent health information.
  • Prepare and send documentation for physician/clinician review and approval.
  • Provide age-appropriate care based on patient status and department policies and procedures.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in medical assisting, medical transcription, emergency medical services, patient service and/or as a health care professional with demonstrated proficiency in medical terminology and technical spelling.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Active License issued by the state in which the team member practices.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Medical Assistant: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 45 days unless department leader has determined it is not required.
  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN): Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Practical Nursing.
  • Medical Assistant: GED or HS Equivalency Diploma.
  • Medical Assistant: Completion of an accredited or approved program in Medical Assistant.
  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, staff and physicians.
  • Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows operating system navigation, electronic mail, and exposure to electronic medical records systems.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience.
  • Ability to meet the listed physical requirements, including lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, transfers, and fine-hand manipulation.
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Must be able to work the stated Monday–Thursday schedule at the New Berlin and Waukesha locations.
